Mapletree Business City
GREEN FEATURES
With its comprehensive range of eco-friendly design and features, Mapletree Business City (MBC) has established its credentials as a leading sustainable green development in Singapore. MBC’s green features reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 6,300 metric tons per year, generate energy savings of about 12 million kWh/year, or the equivalent of S$2.5 million in energy costs, and achieve water savings of about 94,000m3/year valued at about S$200,000 per year.
MBC’s eco-friendly design and sustainability has also garnered numerous accolades.
Key green features:
Façade and landscape design
- North-south facing of the four blocks minimises solar exposure for key functional areas of the office spaces.
- Lush landscaped deck covers the entire first storey, mezzanine floor car park and multi-purpose hall to provide superior insulation from solar heat gain and reduces urban heat island effect.
High energy efficiency
- Fully cladded facade with aluminium framed low-emissivity double glazed vision glass panels reduces heat transmission into the building
- MBC operates the world’s most efficient district cooling plant, with the highest energy efficiency of 0.62 kW/tonne which utilises waste heat recovered from the chiller plan to heat the swimming pool and to produce hot water to F&B outlets, the gym and childcare centre
- The common areas are fitted with motion sensors and zoning control to shut off lighting, air-conditioning, escalators, lifts and car park exhaust system when there is no activity
- Run-around coil technologies is incorporated in the pre-cooled Air Handling Units (AHUs) to pre-cool the outdoor fresh air through cooled toilet exhaust air
High water efficiency
- Recycled water (NEWater) is supplied to the cooling tower make-up, resulting in zero-potable water use
- Condensate water is recycled for all AHUs
- The rain water harvesting system is integrated with an automatic rain sensor control to ensure plants are irrigated only during sunny days
Innovative green features
- Connected to HortPark, a 23-hectare park in South-Western Singapore connecting Telok Blangah Hill Park to Kent Ridge Park
- Provision of facilities such as bicycle lots, shower facilities and sheltered overhead pedestrian walkway to the Labrador Park MRT station to encourage usage of public transportation in order to reduce carbon footprint
